A Year In Review
A Year In Review
Saturday 31st December 2022
Before the first trains of the season the railway took delivery of No.11 Maitland, returning to the railway following a protracted overhaul having not operated since 2003; this locomotive dates from 1905 as one of two (the other being No.10 G.H. Wood) and was outshopped in the spring green livery first applied for the 1967 reopening of the railway and not seen on an operational locomotive since the end of the 2017 season.
Here we also see self-important and legendary (in his own mind at any rate) driver-cum-fireman Paul Pressley posed with his steed No.13 Kissack sporting a fine head of hair and his usual well-presented self, just one aspect of the railway that makes it so special to so many, the pride in appearance taken by its staff, jarring with the smart period environs of the station which the volunteers strive to keep in tip top condition at all times.

The image to the left recalls the first arrival of the locomotive with a pre-season test train; note also the presence of the uprights for the Friends Of... replica advertisement hoarding to the left, work was now well in hand to complete this feature following several years of fundraising efforts and a grant from Culture Vannin of £2,000.00 towards materials. It was to be a progressive year for the volunteer group in many ways.
