Love Lane Bridge
Located at the north-easterly end of the station limits and passed beneath by trains arriving from the direction of Ballasalla Station, this is a pedestrian footbridge which is accessed from the Janet’s Corner (H.M.S. Urley during the second war) and takes you into Poulsom Park; it dates from the earliest days of the railway is still used regularly for access to the footpath.
It is believed to be so called owing to is providing access between nearby King William’s College and the Buchan School, making it allegedly ideal for rendezvous or an illicit liaison point between boys and girls from both seats of learning. The name is lost in the mists of time but has been known by this moniker for many years, a tradition which continues to this day.
Photographers have favoured the bridge as a vantage point for many years, this view from 1950 shows full advantage being taken as a train arrives, headed by No.5 Mona just out of shot. Since this time many trees have been estalbished in this area, the viewpoint altering considerably.
