No.10 G.H. Wood was delivered in 1905 together with No.11 Maitland and is seen here with a southbound train in a familiar scene still viewable today; the canopy features on many period photographs, this one dates from 1932 and show how the site appeared prior to the addition of the platforms in 1998.
Van Gr.12 was one of five built by the Swansea Carriage & Wagon Co., for the opening of the Manx Northern Railway in 1879 as their No.15 and survives today in restored form occasionally displayed. It is seen here in the goods yard with the advertisement hoaridng just visible to the rear, replicated in recent times.
The iconic cream-coloured running in boards with dark green lettering at the station, several of which have been replicated by the Friends Of... volunteer group in more recent times. This is one of several references used to achieve the correct period style for the replicas which appear on the site today.
Zoomed detail showing the canopy which, until 1953, also featured a decorative veranda, there was however no access to the roof and it was purely ornamental. The smaller glazed panels featured for many years but were later boarded over after several of them were damaged by vandals.
Final zoomed detail showing No.12 Hutchinson at the down platform as passengers board and alight in a busy scene still to be seen to this day. The gas lamp was one of several around the site, today powered by electricity and installed at the same time as the platforms in 1998.
Thornycroft motor vehicles used the ancient fortress Castle Rushen as a backdrop for this advertisement featuring a Castletown Brewery dray supplied by them; the brewery itself was just to the left of this scene, now the site of Brewery Wharf apartments, while the brewery offices and former off-licence remain in situ.
A view of the station from one of the favourite photographic vantage points showing a southbound train beside the building, believed to be from 1933 after the trees along the perimeter of Poulsom Park were well established. The locomotive is No.12 Hutchinson. See below for more detail.
The towering advertisement hoarding beside the up platform with the stone-built water tower in the distance, a modern tank stands on this site today with plans to replace it. The hoarding was later extended to twice its original size seen here, on the same location as the replica today, kindly sponsored by Bushy's Brewery.
The tattered displays on the advertisement boarding in a zoomed view of Gr.12 (the small "r" omitted here but it denoted former Manx Northern Railway stock). Today the replica advertisement hoarding is sponsored by Bushy's Brewery and stands on the same site making this one of the historical views still possible to capture.
Showing the original water tower and advertisement hoarding zoomed from the original view; a further advert board to the left promoted Gallaghers Fine-Leaf Tobacco and is a feature of several period views. The ban on advertising tobacco products makes its reinstatement an impossibility.
