Thomas & The Magic Railroad
Thomas & The Magic Railroad
Thomas & The Magic Railroad is a children's fantasy adventure film directed by Britt Allcroft and produced by Phil Fehrle; the cast includes Alec Baldwin, Peter Fonda, Mara Wilson and the voices of Eddie Glen and Neil Crone. It is based on the children's book series The Railway Series by the Reverend W. Awdry, its televised adaptation Thomas & Friends by Allcroft, and the American television series Shining Time Station by Allcroft and Rick Siggelkow; it is the only theatrical live-action/animated film in the Thomas & Friends franchise.
For filming purposes the station building was temporarily clad, much altering its appearance; this view shows work nearing completion prior to the commencement of filming which took place in August of 1999.
A close-up from the finished production with the conductor (Alec Baldwin) tending to the hanging baskets also showing the clad station; the decorative fascia boards were retained, these being added during the 1993-1994 refurbishment.
The goods shed served as the Shining TIme Co-Op for filming purposes, complete with period advertisements; the similar shed at Port St. Mary Station was also used for filming, serving as a workshop where Lady was stored.
View from the finished production also showing the goods shed which was also dressed for filming purposes as a local shop with period signage. The weathervane stands atop the finial above the waiting room.
The open shelter was temporarily boarded across for filming creating quite a different view, coupled with the roof-mounted sign and cladding, only the original slate roof was visible for the duration of filming on the site.
Thomas and Lady in a artificially created image for promotion of the film, using the station as a backdrop; in reality the actual trains and ficitional characters were not seen at the station during filming.
