Getting Involved...
The Friends Of... volunteer working parties meet on site at regular intervals carrying out a variety of maintenance works as well as upkeep of the station, watering of the many floral displays, painting and repairing the platform furniture and expanding the historical displays.
We always welcome new members and working parties are organised to cover a range of skillsets; much of the work required unskilled painting of the picket fencing, plant pots and other items around the site as well as keeping the whole area clean and tidy for passengers.
What We Do
We are fortunate to have access to the station's historic goods shed for our voluntary activities which include a constant scheme of repair and repaint of such items as the plant post, signs, litter bind and traditional platform furniture all of which are located all around the site.
We also carry out fundraising for major projects, the last of which was the erection of the replica advertisement hoarding on the up platform which was completed in 2024 and is kindly sponsored by Bushy's Brewery. Their investment has allowed us to pursue a number of projects.
What You Will Need
In order to volunteer on and around the railway you will be required to undertake a Personal Track Safety (P.T.S.) course at Strathallan Crescent, these are helpfully provided by Isle of Man Railways. Upon passing this you will be provided with a certificate attesting the fact and valid for a set period.
All work carried out on the site will require you to wear sturdy safety footwear and high visibility clothing, the latter of which can be provided on site for each visit. We also recommend wearing working clothing while on site. We are considering the provision of a "uniform" polo shirt with our logo.
