The Station Bridges
The Station Bridges
Carrying trains over the river of the same name, this bridge is on the southwestern edge of the site, just past the ten mile marker on the way to Port Erin. The main span crosses the river itself and there are two smaller arches on either side, one of which provides access to Poulsom Park.
Integral to the bridge is a pedestrian style, allowing access to the adjacent Poulsom Park when there are spring tides which regularly flood the area beneath making access impractical for pedestrians. This was blocked off in early 2026 as part of a larger scheme of fencing works on the site.
No.11 Maitland crossing the Silverburn Bridge in the spring of 1999 heading south towards Mill Road Crossing showing two of the three arch spanning the river of the same name which runs alongside Poulsom Park; the scene remains largely unchanged today save for the addition of railings.
No.11 Maitland heading south showing the smaller arch which provides access to Poulsom Park and the overgrown entrance to the pedestrial style on the right, more recently fenced across; the bridge has a third arch to the left just out of shot which does not have any access points to it.
No.13 Kissack with a southbound service in the early part of the 2025 season, at which time it is possible to capture passing trains prior to the establishment of leaves on the trees; the railings were added in 2001, note also the pedestrain style to the right of the view.
Arriving from the direction of Pumphouse Curve is No.11 Maitland with an early season train in 2000 prior to the addition of railings; at this time the rolling stock had recently reverted to the post-war red and cream scheme making this scene ery similar to one half a century earlier.
