Pre-Season Volunteer Works
Pre-Season Volunteer Works
Tuesday, 17th March 2026
With much work carried out on site by contractors over the winter, including replacement of the picket fencing, electrical work and surfacing of the car park, mid-March saw the Friends Of... volunteers return to the site ahead of the first trains of the season.
Work has included reinstating the historical enamel advertising signs on the fencing, repairing and placement of the platform furniture, moving and cleaning the planters, and erection of some new signs which have once again been provided by the volunteer group.
Over the closed season the group have spent in excess of £17,000 on the site with donations generously provided by Bushy's Brewery. and the Isle of Man Steam Railway Supporters' Association as well as funds held from previous fundraising activities in recent times.
We are very much looking forward to another successful season supporting the railway, the undoubted highlight of which will be the Manx Heritage Transport Festival from Tuesday 28th July to Sunday 2nd August, details of which will be released shortly.
We presently hope to stage a Vintage Vehicle Rally on the site to raise funds for our proposed next major project, the stone cladding of the replacement water tower to ensure this blends with the historic site and closely resembles the original which was demolished many years ago.
This is in addition to our regular site maintenance, upkeep of the historic waiting room and our Model Railway Exhibition which will be open for the season when the first trains operate on Thursday 19th March. Please get in touch if you can assist with any of our activities.
