Goods Siding Reinstated
Goods Siding Reinstated
Thursday, 30th April 2026
Work commenced by contractors to reinstate the rear goods yard siding on Tuesday, 28th April, having been temporarily removed to for allow drainage works to be completed as part of the adjacent new housing estate some years ago. The panels of track have spent quite some time stacked in the yard awaiting these works.
The siding, which was originally much longer, and was shortened to allow for additional car parking spaces, serves the loading platform which has recently been fitted with a replica cattle dock with the kind support of the Isle of Man Steam Railway Supporters’ Association who gave a £4,000.00 grant to the Friends Of... volunteers.
Earlier in the month the goods yard was used for the first time this year when a private photographic charter was posed in the yard, the train being posed in a position to conceal the removed panels with No.11 Maitland and the three wagons and vans making an attractive scene. These works have ensured that the cattle dock is now rail connected and can potentially be used once more.
