Telephone Kiosk Donation
Xxxday, Xst November 2026
The Friends Of... volunteer group are delighted to announce that they have been donated on long-term loan a vintage K6 telephone kiosk for display at the station which is now in pride of place on the down platform having been delivered to the historic site recently from its former home in Glen Vine.
The group are extremely indebted to Mr. Dermot O’Toole who has been custodion of the kiosk since 2004 and had it completely restored including the orignal bakelite handset which remains inside. The kiosk was originally located on Ridgeway Road in Onchan until decommissioning.
The kiosk is now on long-term loan and in the care of the volunteer group, further enhancing the site and perfectly complementing their works earlier in the year including the replica cattle dock, improved signage and the redecoration of the period waiting room which is now nearly completed.
2026 has proved to be a bumper year for the Friends Of... volunteer group, on the back of the extensive site works carried out by the railway including surfacing he patrons car park and all-new picket fencing, they have also been busy enhancing the site and investing in a number of areas which they continue to do.
Already looking forward to 2027, the railway are to replace the time expired water tower at the station following the last trains of the season, at which point we will be investigating the possibility of fitting stone cladding to the metal frame base to give a true authentic appearance to this feature.
Fundraising efforts will be going towards this feature which will only further improve the appearance of the site which is now looking better than ever following all these works. The closed season will see attention turn to the maintenence of platform furniture and other associated items.
