End Of The Season
End Of The Season
Sunday, 1st November 2026
The final timetabled services of the 2026 season operated today, with the standard "R" timetable in operation using locomotives M.N.Ry. No.4 Caledonia and No.13 Kissack and as ever the last day was very well supported. The station will now be closed for the winter months, reopening next year.
It has been another busy season at the station and there have been a considerable number of improvements since the beginning of the year including the replacement of all traditional picket fencing, surfacing of the car park and addition of the replica cattle dock.
Volunteers have had a busy season, the advertisemnt hoarding having been replaced at the same time as the cattle dock, all-new signage across the site, full redecoration of the waiting room all in all totalling an investment of nearly £10,000.00 in enhancing the historical site.
Festive dining trains will call at the statiuon throughout December before the railway closes entirely for maintenence work; the 2027 season is scheduled to commence on Thursday, 18th March which, for those who are looking forward to it, is a mere 137 days to go...!
The volunteer Friends Of... remain active in the winter months, with attention turning to replacement of time-expired slats on the many benches around the site as well as repainting of various items of platform furniture and signage in their signature cheerful green scheme.
If you would like to get involved we are always happy to hear from you on granttaylor@manx.net; our attention is also turning to funding options for the stone cladding of the replacement water tower which is due for erection in the closed season and will initially be indentical to that on site now.
Next Season Start Date : Thursday, 18th March 2027
