The Station Bridges
The Station Bridges
Love Lane Bridge
Located at the northern end of the station and passed beneath by trains arriving from the direction of Ballasalla Station, this is a pedestrian footbridge which is accessed from Janet’s Corner and takes you into Poulsom Park; it dates from the earliest days. It is believed to be so called owing to is providing access between nearby King William’s College and the Buchan School, making it allegedly ideal for rendezvous or liaison point between boys and girls from both seats of learning.
The Silverburn Bridge
Carrying trains over the river of the same name, this bridge is on the southwestern edge of the site, just past the ten mile marker on the way to Port Erin. The main span crosses the river itself and there are two smaller arches on either side, one of which provides access to Poulsom Park; to the side of this bridge once stood a second water tower which was supplied by the river, the frame for which survived until 2000 when removed during I.R.I.S. Scheme works, when railings were also added to the bridge.
